Billboards, Bad Intersections, Life After Cars, Fixing Lougheed, and more! 

It’s been a big summer at Vision Zero Vancouver! Here are some of the highlights: 

🗳️ Two major road safety wins at Vancouver city council: one to reduce the speed limit to 30km/h in residential neighbourhoods, and another to refresh the city’s out-of-date Vision Zero Action Plan. You can read more here. New Westminster also took a big step towards keeping kids safer, by extending school zone hours to 7am-10pm. 

🪧 Have you spotted our billboard in town? Created by Tom Flood at Rovelo Creative, it’s certainly been turning heads. It’ll be up at Ontario & 8th until the end of the month. Make sure to get a selfie!

🚦What’s the worst intersection in Metro Vancouver? Our poll is down to the top 8.! Cast your vote in the quarterfinals!

🎤The War on Cars podcast hosts are coming to Vancouver in November as part of a tour promoting their new book, Life After Cars. We’re thrilled to be hosting them, and this event also helps raise funds for our work! Tickets are more than 50% sold out. Make sure to get yours before they’re gone.

🚌Translink is collecting feedback for their Bus Rapid Transit route from Burnaby to North Van. We’re supporting option 1! Our friends at Movement explain why it’s the best choice. Please give Translink your feedback!  

😢A 5km stretch of Lougheed Highway has claimed 5 pedestrian lives since December 2022.We break down why it’s happening, and why it will keep happening without urgent change. Please read, then email the Premier, the Minister of Transportation, and the local MLA and tell them we demand change before more lives are lost.
