Take action: Tell the Province to urgently fix Lougheed

Between December 2022 to January 2026, a short 5km stretch of Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge has claimed 6 pedestrian lives.

We laid out the details of when, how, and why this keeps happening here:

Lougheed Highway is under the Province’s jurisdiction. We are requesting 6 urgent changes, before anyone else is killed:

  1. Take the word “Highway” out of the name.
  2. Immediately reduce the speed limit where Lougheed goes through residential neighbourhoods.
  3. Significantly increase the number of pedestrian crossings.
  4. Get rid of all slip lanes along this road.
  5. Add automated red light and speed cameras.
  6. Add protected active transport lanes.

You can read more in our blog post about why each intervention will save lives.

What we’re asking you to do is to email the people in charge, and demand solutions. It’s only a matter of time before someone else is killed along this stretch.

Please email the Premier, Minister of Transportation, and local MLA and let them know how you feel. Remind them that this is their responsibility.

Premier David Eby: premier@gov.bc.ca

Minister of Transportation Mike Farnworth: Mike.Farnworth.MLA@leg.bc.caTran.Webmaster@gov.bc.ca

Maple Ridge–Pitt Meadows MLA Lisa Beare: Lisa.Beare.MLA@leg.bc.ca

You can also email the mayors and councils of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Although the municipalities can’t directly change Lougheed Highway, they should at the bare minimum join the fight for change.
