Thank you to everyone who attended the Kent Ave cleanup!

We picked up 181kg of trash along a 2km stretch of Kent Avenue, in about 3 hours.
We also spray painted some hazards to make them more visible.

And we made over a dozen 311 reports for waste that we weren’t equipped to deal with.

A few before and after shots:

Thanks to Adam who made 3 full loads to the transfer station! Lesson learned: you have to pre-register your cleanup with the city to get free trash disposal. We didn’t know and it cost us $52, which was a bit demoralizing.

We got to finish the day at the patio at Dogwood Brewing! What bike routes need a cleanup next?

Sunday, May 17, 2026:
Let’s give the Kent Ave ‘greenway’ some love! Kent is one of our city’s most neglected greenways. We’ll be picking up trash, sweeping debris, and documenting conditions where city support is needed.
After the cleanup we’ll head to Dogwood Brewing (location) for a conversation about transportation options in Southeast Vancouver and priorities for city investments. This will be an informal, social gathering – think brainstorming with your neighbours, not panel presentation.
This is a decent-weather only event. If significant rain is expected we will cancel and let you know on BlueSky and Instagram the night before, so please be sure to check.
Meeting point: E. Kent Ave South & Ontario St. (the very bottom of Ontario)
Ending point: Dogwood Brewing, 8284 Sherbrooke St.
Total distance: Just over 2km.
What to bring: We’ll have some supplies but we could always use more! Tools to pickup trash, gloves, garbage bags, brooms.
Getting There
Cycling: come down Ontario all the way to Kent.
Transit: our meeting point is a 10 minute walk from the #3 bus stop at Marine Drive and Ontario, or a 20 minute walk from the Marine Drive Canada Line station.
Car: there is plenty of nearby street parking in the area.
