Sunday, November 15th: Memorial Rally at City Hall

Join us at 10:30am Vancouver time for a community memorial for World Day of Remembrance, honouring people who have been killed and seriously injured on our roads.

Hear from community members, share your own stories, and join us in calling for action on road safety. We’ll be gathering outside Vancouver City Hall, at the Helena Gutteridge Plaza.

Note: All ages are welcome at this event and we will have some kid-friendly activities. Please be aware that speakers may discuss serious injury, death, grief, or specifics from their crash or recovery that may be emotionally heavy.

Friday, November 20th: What Crash Survivors Wish You Knew panel discussion

We are hosting a panel discussion at Vancouver General Hospital Friday, November 20th at 3pm geared towards healthcare and transportation professionals, elected officials, and advocates.

In the transportation sector, crashes are often discussed from a statistical perspective, presented as “KSI” metrics. The goal of this event is to humanize these very real experiences and the life changing impacts they have on hundreds of British Columbians every year.

Learn more about our panelists:

Jehan Jiwa: Jehan suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision on the Sea to Sky Highway in January of 2023. As she continues to recover from her injuries, her goal is to someday return to her passion of playing hockey again. Prior to her accident, Jehan worked in the professional sports industry as an operations professional. She is now a consultant and public speaker, using her story of survival and resilience to inspire others, while also using her experience to advocate for better road safety measures.

Julia Kwan: Julia Kwan is the founder of Victims of No Fault, an advocacy initiative raising awareness of the injured experience under BC’s Enhanced Care insurance system. In November 2024, Julia was struck by a dump truck while crossing the street, sustaining life-threatening injuries that led to a nine-week hospitalization at VGH, nine surgeries, and a long recovery ahead. Her experience navigating recovery and the no-fault system inspired her to turn a deeply personal experience into advocacy.

Additional panelist bios coming soon.
